This is a project we will never forget! When the lead designer and the client had their babies due a week apart, there was a definite deadline to get this bathroom renovation complete. This was also our first venture into using brass fixtures in a bathroom, and we couldn’t have been happier with the finished product.
This home is located in Grand Rapids’ Heritage Hill neighborhood. It’s over 100 years old, and we couldn’t ignore the classic details in the doorway and trim. While it was a privilege to update the bathroom, we definitely wanted to keep elements of the space that fit in with the rest of the home’s historic feel.
One of the coolest parts of this project was being able to keep the original clawfoot tub. We had it reglazed and added a beautiful new brass faucet on the tub and put it on an angle so that it fit in the space in a really unique way, while still being able to walk around it.
We continued the brass trend into the shower, chose a classic white subway tile for the walls and a beautiful white penny round for the floor. We didn’t have much room for niches in this shower, so we included glass corner shelves for the client’s shower essentials.
The vanity was a piece the client found online. We love the furniture style because it included these small feet that allows you to see that the tile continues underneath the whole unit. If you’re going to have beautiful hexagonal tile that varies with every piece, you might as well show it off as much as possible!
