The Bathroom’s in the Details

While we love every bathroom project we get to be a part of, this might still be our favorite bathroom to date. This project is in a historic home in East Grand Rapids, and there were already a lot of fun details for us in the space to begin with.

Our jumping off point was the door to the bathroom. Since it was already a dark tone, we simply freshened it up and used that for our warm-toned vanity. Notice the fun detail in the vanity with the shape of the backsplash. As you’ll see, it mimics the curves of the shower archway to tie it all together.

We brought in a lot of copper finishes, which adds so much richness and ties into the rest of the home (will you just LOOK at that beautiful faucet reproduction). We also used the copper in the lighting fixtures and the shower accessories.

We were able to do a lot of fun details in this bathroom. The next feature is the encaustic tile done by Cement Tile Shop. We carried that into the shower and used a line drain so that the shower has a curbless entry.

One of our favorite features is the board and batten paneling we did on the walls, which we tied in with the custom built-in medicine cabinet above the sink. It opens up and offers more storage for the client.

Moving over into the shower, we kept this archway feature that was already there in the previous shower. The shape is so unique to this home, that we also chose to stick with a classic subway tile, as you would have seen originally in the home.

In the end, we turned this into a warm and welcoming space fit for guests or for every day use, using the existing heritage of the home and will last for another 100 years.

We kept the archway, but updated everything else.
